As part of efforts by management to improve newborn and neonatal care, an ultra-modern Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is under construction.

The Wild Ganzen Foundation in the Netherlands has offered support towards the project.

Currently, newborn and neonatal care is provided in a small NICU facility carved out of the Children’s Ward. Due to the high burden on it as a referral centre for the region, with referrals coming from both within and beyond the Ahafo Region, the available space is highly limited.

When completed, the new NICU facility will go a long way to ease pressure on the limited space currently available, and will help improve the delivery of care for neonates in the Ahafo Region and beyond.
